Fuel injection system in petrol engines

FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM IN PETROL ENGINE.
.
. When bs6 technology came into era the Indian bikes(petrol fuelled) are replaced by throttle bodies and electronically controlled fuel injection systems in place of the normal carburettors. This fuel injection systems are already used in some highly specificated bikes and normally in all petrol engine cars.
.
MAIN POINTS TO CHANGE FROM CARBURETTORS. .
.
The carburettors takes fuel according to the volume of air and not according to the temperature of the air. The temperature change in air changes its volume, density and also affects the presence of oxygen in the air. That is when the temperature of the air increases the air becomes thin and thick when temperature decreases, the density of air also decreases with increase in altitude. When density decreases it also decreases the oxygen content in the air and this oxygen is needed at higher proportions for the engine to work efficiently. That is why the power and torque of the engine decreases at higher altitudes. The carburettor fails to sense these changes and it needs to be tuned according to the atmospheric conditions. To over come these the FI system is employed.

INTRODUCTION TO FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. This system works by obtaining information’s from the sensors acts according to the programmed instructions from the engine control module. The temperature of the inlet air, fuel injection pressure, amount of fuel injected, the temperature of the exhaust gas, the position of the throttle, the position of the cam, inlet air pressure, the temperature of the engine, exhaust gas oxygen content are sensed by different types of sensors and converted into electrical signals, the ECM obtains the information’s according to the change in those electrical singnal and makes function the components of this FI system by processing the information’s from the sensors with programmed instructions in the ECU software(ECU MAP) and from this we can clear that the principle of closed loop feedback system is employed here.
