IVTEC system

Image
IVTEC SYSTEM . .  IVTEC stands for intelligent- variable valve timing and electronic lift control is a system developed by honda to increase the volumetric efficiency of an internal combustion engine, resulting in higher performance at lower RPM. Here the cam phasing is implemented by computer controlled, oil-driven adjustable cam sprocket or the electrically actuated cam phaser (it replaces the oil pressure actuated cam phaser). Thus, this system provides continuous cam phasing and discrete variable valve lift controls using CPS concept. This system consists of a camshaft with a centre high lift cam and outer low lift cams and associated rocker arms. For light load operation, the valves are operated by the two outer, low lift cams and associated rocker arms. For high power operation, hydraulic pressure is used to insert a pin to lock the middle rocker arm to the outer rocker arms for operation on the high lift cam. Cam phasing is accomplished with a hydraulic cam phaser.

Fuel injection system in petrol engines

FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM IN PETROL ENGINE. . . When bs6 technology came into era the Indian bikes(petrol fuelled) are replaced by throttle bodies and electronically controlled fuel injection systems in place of the normal carburettors. This fuel injection systems are already used in some highly specificated bikes and normally in all petrol engine cars. . .  MAIN POINTS TO CHANGE FROM CARBURETTORS.  . .  The carburettors takes fuel according to the volume of air and not according to the temperature of the air. The temperature change in air changes its volume, density and also affects the presence of oxygen in the air. That is when the temperature of the air increases the air becomes thin and thick when temperature decreases, the density of air also decreases with increase in altitude. When density decreases it also decreases the oxygen content in the air and this oxygen is needed at higher proportions for the engine to work efficiently. That is why the power and torque of the engine decrea

what is meant by CBU and CKD

Image
CKD (completely knocked down) CBU (completely Built-up) .   . CBU . As the name suggests these cars are completely built up as a whole somewhere in the world and imported into the counties(i.e)The cars are imported as completely operatable in the road. Due to the taxes the cost of these cars were higher compared to CKD. . (For example Polo GTI in india is the CBU as it was completely assembled in Germany and imported to india as a whole car.) . . . CKD . In ckd the parts of the car is manufactured in the homeplant or home country of that brand and assembled in the locality where it is to be sold. . (For example for polo GT in india, the parts are manufactured in germany and assembled to completly operatable car in volkswagen chakan plant in india.). . . The company or brand decides about CKD or CBU according to the units sold in the country.

BS6 - Bharat stage 6 Emission norms

Image
On 1st of April, the government of India upgraded the BS4 emission norms. These emission norms were a big step forward from the previous BS3 emission norms. . Though BS4 a huge step, it was a new emission norm after nearly a decade. The government thought of compensating the time hence decided to launch BS6 after BS4. . A Bharat Stage 6 ready engine has major modifications to its components to make it cleaner and adhere to the BS6 emission norm. Modifications like improved fuel quality composition and a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) in diesel cars are integrated with the exhaust system to make the vehicle BS6 ready. . BS6 emission norms which are stricter by reducing NOx emissions by approximately 25-70%. Additionally, under BS6 emission standards, the hydrocarbon emissions, and particulate matter emitted from tailpipes of vehicles would be controlled and reduced. India currently follows BS4 standards and it will the first country t

Volkswagen 1.0 TSI Engine

Volkswagen to sell its iconic hatchback(polo) with 1.0 L TSI and MPI engine in india. I can catch your mind...you may think..."1.0l engine???? Whats about the power of polo??shit !!" . This engine was refined to retain the punch of polo although it was 1.0 liter. let us have some interesting knowledge about it. . 1.0 L - it represents that the engines displacement is nearly equals to 1000cc. . MPI(Naturally aspirated version with low power) - Multipoint Fuel Injection(each cylinder has a dedicated fuel injector)"The ECU decides the appropriate quantity and pressure of the gasoline fuel to be sprayed for the rich air fuel mixture". . TSI - Turbocharged Stratified Injection  . Turbocharged - as we already known the intake air was turbo forced to increase the power by maintaining the effeciency. . Stratified - its similar to the word layer, the word "stratified" mentions that the fuel is injected as such to create the layer of air fuel mixture ins

Mercedes Benz Bluetech emission system.

Image
MERCEDES  BENZ BLUETEC EMISSIONS TECHNOLOGY   It is the Mercedes benz developed technology designed to control the diesel vehicle emissions making the vehicle operating at highest level of efficiency and power output .This technology is used in EURO 5,EURO 6 AND BS 6 engines. .  The bluetec emissions technology is the complete emission systems which utilizes the EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) engine and it’s the 1-box system ,which contains the components like Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC),Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF),Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank(DEF tank) and Selective Catalyst Reduction(SCR catalyst). All these components work together to meet current emission  standards  and increases the efficiency of the engine by lowering the back pressure. HOW DOES BLUETEC WORKS?   . The bluetec system controls  the emissions by performing several chemical reactions inside the 1-box system. The exhaust gas leaves the engine with NOx , particulate matters and other pollutants .This ex
